My Background

My background in academia spans several areas of study. These include counseling psychology, cognition, anthropology, literature, and Indigenous studies at the University of British Columbia. I hold a Bachelor of Applied Arts in visual art and communication from Toronto Metropolitan University.

I have a strong background in Family, Child & Youth Care. I have worked in both private and public agencies with children and adults in conjunction with the Ministry of Children and Families, and in collaboration with Indigenous agencies. As a result of this work, I've developed a strong interest in researching and studying the trauma responses of children in the classroom, as well as trauma within family dynamics. I am a proponent of humanistic psychologist Carl Rogers and the client-centered therapy of Alfred Adler.

I am also a provincially vetted tutor qualified to work at the college level in British Columbia.

Presently, I divide my time between tutoring adults and working in a supportive role with neurodiverse learners at the Vancouver School Board. I live in Vancouver, BC.

How I Work

My time with you will be primarily on Zoom. If you feel it would be helpful to meet in person to better understand the material or to discuss your individual learning needs, I am happy to arrange an in-person meeting.

The process for completing and submitting work is straightforward and designed to help you achieve the results you are aiming for. A key part of my role is helping you process the meaning of your studies; getting to the core of your readings and instruction.

To achieve this, we will both read the assignment-related material. This allows me to gauge your reading comprehension, which is the foundation for both our discussions and your written work. Once you have developed a solid understanding of the material, I will assist you in structuring your written work and will provide ongoing feedback, editing, and guidance as you refine your ideas and conclusions until we arrive at a product that is satisfactory to both of us.

I will also request a PDF copy of your course syllabus so that we clearly understand your instructors' expectations and assignment deadlines. This helps us plan how to allocate our time effectively throughout the term.

If you feel this approach could be a good fit for your learning needs, please reach out to me at the email address below. I will be happy to provide you with details about my available hours and the terms under which I work.

All the best in your future endeavours!
Monica
